COUNSELLING PROCESS What is the kindest thing you could do for yourself right now? We will examine this together and discover what it means to you - being kind to yourself. Together we will work on: Moving beyond old and unhelpful coping mechanisms, recognizing or rediscovering your full potential for feeling content and at ease in life; exploring how distressing and/or traumatizing experiences have inhibited you from feeling present, connected, and healthy; learning to form healthy and fulfilling relationships; and creating a healthy relationship with your body. The truth is, our experiences and our relationships shape us, often with physical, emotional, behavioural, psychological and/or spiritual impacts. These impacts persist, even if we are not aware of them or where they come from, and even if (especially when) we ignore, judge or push them away. My goal is to be a safe, compassionate space for my clients to grow, learn and heal. As your therapist, I will walk with you -to guide you toward a path of safety, wholeness, joy, and purpose. My therapeutic approach is one of compassion, authenticity and connection. With that foundation, I meet with my clients from a place of curiosity, non-judgement, and flexibility, adapting our treatment and goals with what best aligns with their unique experiences and needs. Much of the essence in which I practice is based on the understanding that trauma is not only a psychological experience, but also a physiological one, involving the body’s nervous system. I am a big believer in ensuring I have done my own therapeutic healing journey, and have often been “in the other chair” so to speak, fidgeting, trying to breathe, laughing, sobbing, venting, wondering if I’ve said too much or too little, not knowing what to say at all, getting stuck in painful memories, doubts or emotions, and most profoundly, processing my own trauma - though our experiences are different, I have been where you are in that seat. I see you, and I honour your bravery. Though counselling can appear intimidating or uncomfortable, it is always worth it. I look forward to joining you on your journey. I always recommend a phone consultation to ensure a good therapeutic fit before investing in a full session. Get in touch by booking online. EXPERIENCE Throughout her education, Kelsey worked in the non-profit mental health sector, and developed an interest in working with marginalized populations, primarily within addictions and mental health. In pursuit of this interest, Kelsey began working as an addictions counsellor for an outpatient program, where she worked with those experiencing chronic homelessness overcome their challenges with substance use. After completing her Masters, Kelsey worked at Lethbridge Family Services for 2.5 years, providing counselling services to a wider range of clientele including, but not limited to, adult individuals and couples impacted by: trauma, abuse, grief/loss, depression, anxiety, relationships, transitions, and a range of mental-health disorders. At present, Kelsey is working as a Registered Provisional Psychologist in private practice, under the Supervision of owner Nadine Duckworth, Registered Psychologist. This combination of education and work experience over the years has provided her with familiarity in a number of different areas that may align with your story and what is bringing you to counselling. Her clinical work is strongly informed by both lived experience and evidence-based research that uniquely confirms our innate ability to heal through connection. EDUCATION Kelsey obtained her Bachelor of Health Sciences in Addictions Counselling from the University of Lethbridge. She then went on to achieve her Master of Counselling Psychology at Athabasca University. As part of her graduate degree requirement, she completed a 400-hour clinical practicum as well as her Master's capstone project exploring the connection between childhood trauma/abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and incarceration, along with best practices for counselling incarcerated women who present with PTSD symptomatology. |
